ChACE Recommendation Form

    Dear Colleague,

A teacher at your school or within your program has expressed interest in participating in an international post-graduate teaching experience through the ACE in Chile (ChACE) program at the University of Notre Dame. Thank you for your willingness to contribute to his/her application.

ChACE provides the opportunity for recent graduates of University Consortium of Catholic Education (UCCE) programs to teach internationally in Santiago, Chile, while growing as leaders and educators. The 18-month immersive program requires teachers to:

    1. Participate in an intensive 6-week language course (traditionally in Ecuador),
    2. Live with Chilean host families (for the first several months in Chile) and then as a cohort community (for the following 12 months),
    3. Teach as a full-time faculty member of the English as a Foreign Language Department at Saint George's College.

Enveloped in a foreign cultural, linguistic, and educational context, ChACErs serve as faith-filled teachers for the Saint George school community. They are expected to be deeply involved in the ongoing formation of students both inside and outside the classroom, and they often become treasured colleagues among the faculty and staff. Through the program, members of ChACE are tasked with the enriching yet challenging responsibility of teaching English language learners and serving as linguistic and cultural ambassadors, all while living in another part of the world.

We ask that you take a few moments to give us your sense of the applicant's fitness for the ChACE program. Applications and recommendations should be submitted by January 15, 2024. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me at kwalter5@nd.edu.

Thank you, in advance, for your time and assistance.

    In gratitude,
    Katy Lichon, Ph.D.
    Director, ACE in Chile (ChACE)
